Catnip effect
When cats smell catnip, they jump, roll around, vocalize, and salivate like queens in season (females in heat). This reaction lasts around ten minutes, after which your cat becomes resistant to the catnip effect for about 30 minutes. Catnip sensitivity is hereditary; nearly 70 to 80 percent of cats will exhibit this behavior when exposed to this plant. Catnip has little effect on kittens until they are around six months old and have attained sexual maturity.
